Summary:

Available in hardcover and also as a $14.99 digital book from the iBookstore

This gorgeous new baking book contains beloved classics and contemporary treats, from passionate baker and food editor Kim Laidlaw and America’s most revered bakeries and bloggers. Stunning, full-color photographs throughout bring it all to life. A mixture of nostalgia and fun, it is directed at both experienced bakers or anyone who might be curious about baking; there’s something here for everyone.

Favorites like caramel whoopie pies, sour cherry “toaster” tarts, deep dark chocolate cupcakes stuffed with marshmallow cream and glazed with ganache, and gooey s’mores brownies will take the reader back to childhood. Modern twists on classic comfort foods such as brown butter pound cake with fresh fig compote, flaky rhubarb turnovers, and crème brûlée with caramelized blood oranges; and old family favorites like maple pumpkin pie, brown-sugar banana bread, and chocolate crinkle cookies will entice and inspire anyone to get in the kitchen and start baking.

My Thoughts:

Can I say yum. The pictured of all the baked goods in this book are so darn beautiful, it really made me wish that I could sample every one.  The book is broken down into chapters that include recipes for: breakfast, breads, cookies & bars, cakes & cupcakes, pies & tarts, custards & soufflés. There are also basic recipes like pie crust, frostings, whipped cream, flowerless chocolate cake to name a few. This is a fountain of baking recipes.  I think I plan on using one of the cake recipes for Matt’s birthday in November or maybe the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting since that is a favorite. If you like baking cookbooks then this is one for you, or if you are in need of a cook book that has tons of baking recipes than this one is for you.

Overall Rating:  5 / 5 Stars
